words of trainer "Sunny Jim" Fitzsimmons) by Gloria in Illinois

“It’s what you can’t see that matters,”

Or so said one trainer of old,

What’s deep down inside can’t be shattered,

All champions are inwardly gold.

A horse may not always “look” perfect,

But still have a fire deep inside,

To the keen eye of someone who’s watching,

He’ll show his true spirit and pride.

If we go by external appearance,

Then flaws sometimes get in the way

Of seeing the true inner being,

That tells more than looks can convey.

But one colt has shown us so clearly,

While proving he does want to mend;

That even when injured and hurting,

His strength and his will have no end.

And trying beyond what’s “expected”,

As Barbaro does every day,

Lets breakthroughs and miracles happen,

Revealing new dreams on the way.

To some degree, we’re all imperfect,

Which doesn’t diminish our worth.

For even the bruised and the broken

Contribute so much to this earth.

That trainer knew what he was saying,

When searching for brilliance unknown,

He knew that the essence of champions

Surpasses what’s physically shown.

“It’s what you can’t see that matters,”

So we gaze through the eyes of the soul,

And beauty and truth, heart and courage,

Trump everything outward we know.

<dc:subject>Dedicated to our Hero's and all others</dc:subject>

<item
