Barbaro

On a late April night a champion was born
A difficult birth he'd survive to see morn

It is said they knew from the very start
That Barbaro had courage and a tremendous heart

It is said he was different from all the rest
And that he'd race to become the very best

Whimsy and smart they said of this young steed
Soon showing the world his unequaled speed

Victorious in the Derby and next the Crown?
Cut short at the Preakness which brought him down

Now America prays that he win his greatest race
So this champion may once again feel the sun upon his face

May God grant you a full life!

With love,

Pat

Truly inspiring poetic words. Would enjoy seeimg more poetry by others sharing their reflective thoughts. Barbaro is helping more now than if he became a triple crown winner!

Pat, your words reminded me of how not only Barbaro's shining spirit is like the sun on our face--he is one so full of grace too! Musing over some beautiful poems at Tim and Alex's website, I couldn't help feeling compassion for Martita Goshen's story of how she understands Barbaro's grace and fluidity in motion. Dancer, it's her "other worldly" sentiments no one can legislate, as remarkable sympathy grows for Barbaro.

Call it illogical, talking in prayer to a horse. Yet now, non-barbaronians begin to understand. Nancy T. in CT faced one of them who realized this is no ordinary horse. Keeping her grace like Barbaro's, she won over a total stranger. Loving Barbaro over distance seems to make the bond of love stronger moving others in "mysterious ways."

Rather than excerpt Martita's artistry, I leave her "dear barbaro" letter intact:

      "barbaro,
your enduring grace, your intellence & tremendous spirit shines through all the rubbish in our pained world.

you teach me, since the day i saw you win at the derby with your suberb pal and rider, prado--what it takes to be a champion--to be present & fight the good fight. i am eternally grateful, as a professional dancer, & choreographer. for the equine grace & elegance of horses...all shapes & sizes...but barbaro is like a unicorn...OTHERWORLDLY, the real thing--and all the wonderful folks alex, tim, michael, the jacksons, peter, and his lovely wife kim who wrote so elequently in that first aweful week of tragedy. all these exceptional folks, including the magnificent and humble prado, left a huge mark on the world. we see the love transformed into a form you call him, BOBBY!

i am grateful to read all your comments & learn about the good things about the racing world. my dancing is all the better for seeing perfection --fluid seamless motion -- of this great horse.

i love the poems & thoughts pouring from all corners of the country & around the world. how healing is that, how reaffirming it to know this horse has a true voice that is being heard everywhere. and, how grateful i am to the staff, dr. kathy, dr. R, dr. adams, & all concerned. I also would like to get alex a red mustang car & make sure all the bills pass that help horses live a good life -- after giving their hearts on the tracks. they deserve the best. it is outrageous that any horse should suffer, large or small, because of human indifference & shoddy care. it is unacceptable...but then, I know we have world poverty -- literally in fact & then in spirit. bless everyone for caring & bringing their love to barbaro.

wherever i am in the world, i check into tim's site as well as NBC. i will be tuning in for the saturday night vigil right before my own performances here in NYC. goodnight barbaro, may you not have one ounce of pain, rolling in soft warm grass & plenty of fillies to keep you company.

      your adoring friend,
      martita in sea cliff, NY."

      praise AMEN!!
      Thank you Martita
      Gariel too.

Ruler of the Wind... by Jo Singer
      The wind knows you...
      The wind loves you...
      The wind has kissed you...
      and you...dark wonder horse...
      have danced with the wind...
      The wind misses you...
The wind sings to you each day...
      Breathing life...
      healing and health so softly...
      whispering...
That she longs to dance with you again...
      Yet as this time...
      when that dance has become,
a cherished memory in your mind.
      It still...is...with...you...
It caresses your body gently where you sleep...
      and ...heal...and dream...
She lulls you to peaceful rest...
      Whistles softly...sweetly...
She will always be with you...
      and you with her...
      Sweet Barbaro...ruler of the wind...

      For Barbaro

      He races across celestial skies
The fire of Equus in his eyes.

The spirit of courage, winning, and grace
Ever apparent upon his gentle face.

The clap of thunder beneath his feet
Because he knows he must compete.

His greatest race a fateful one
A race for life one not yet won.

Inspiring hope in all who may know
      God's magnificent steed , Barbaro.

      With love,

      Pat

      Triumph from Tradgedy

It is said that Barbaro is one of a kind
There's just no question in anyone's mind

He's fast and feisty, powerful and strong
Inspiring many who compose this hero's song

A song that sings of courage and grace
And spirit of innocence and beauty of face

Songs that tell of that fateful day
After breaking out early on the 20th of May

Tears flowing and cries, "Spare this champion's life!"
Cries heard by Matz, Prado, Jacksons- husband and wife

Rushed to New Bolton to Dr. Dean's healing hands
Whispered prayers heard across all near and distant lands

"God stand by Dean 's side while performing his skills!"
Assisted by plates and screws bolts and, yes, pills

Heal a champion whom a nation loves so much
God, please deliver Barbaro your healing touch

Praise! Dean reports, "He's doing all things a horse can do."
We now must wait. Recovery is up to Barbaro too

Now walking and grazing at our Dr. Dean's side
And nipping at reporters when apples denied!

May one day Barbaro gallop down recovery's road
As our songs for Barbaro continue to be told!

God please heal our adoptive son.

      With much love.
